Subject: Transparency Visit
Good Morning Colleagues,
Thank you all for being part of
the transparency visit October 24. It was as an opportunity to discuss
transparency expectations as well as other matters pertaining to charter
schools in general. As a result of our conversation, a few items require
comment. Some items, including collective bargaining agreement, parent
involvement plan, and parent/student handbook need to be posted in an
easy-to-find location on your website. Consistency between buildings in
regards to fire safety information should be addressed. Consideration of
a link to all buildings from your district page was a great idea brought forth
from your team of administrators. Lastly, the transparency items listed
as "Need at School Site" really should be at the school
site. Having these documents at the Leona Group office does not meet the
requirement for school site. It is recommended for compliance purposes
that the following items be at the district office, as it is within the
realm/location of the schools and can be quickly provided upon request from external
parties:
This appears to be a lot of items.
And, we know it is a matter more of location than anything. Be assured each of
our charter academies must have this information on site as well. The challenge
for CCA is the large amount of buildings in the district. This is why
having the information at you district office makes more sense and is within
compliance. For us (SUPO), having the binders at your location Javier
takes care of our needs and MDE as well. Hoping this change won't be too
difficult to accomplish. As we work out the transparency details, we may
ask for modifications to our requests. We too are trying to interpret
changes from MDE.
We look forward to coming back by
the turn of the year for another visit.
If you have questions, please
contact me or Roberto. I have attached your compliance information.
You can tab to the transparency location to see the updates. Items in red
need addressing. Items in blue are the school site documents. Can
you supply Pam and Thomas with this information? I don't have their email
addresses.
Great visit!
Take care,
Dave Lewis
